Claes Oldenburg: Pretzel

This pretzel series pays homage to the Varick Street printing world. Oldenburg felt the pretzel carts  outside his window on Varick Street represented the aura of the neighborhood, the pretzel a prefect object for his multiples.  The laser-cut cardboard technique gave off a burnt smell reminiscent of the baking or roasted chestnuts (also found on the pretzel carts).
