Between 1953 and February 1954 Picasso executed an extraordinary suite of drawing known collectively as La Comedie Humane.  It deals with the relationship between a painter and his model, a favorite theme for Picasso. The profile of the woman reveals the artist's new muse, later wife, Jacqueline.  The drawings were made into lithographs published with an introduction by Michel Leiris.
